Break-through of the last tunnel of Harbour Area Treatment Scheme Stage I in November 2000, marking a major milestone towards completion of this $8.2 billion sewerage improvement scheme that aimed at improving the water quality in Victoria Harbour.

Completion of Shenzhen River Regulation Stage II in June 2000, reducing significantly the hazard of flooding in areas along the river from Lo Wu to its estuary at Deep Bay.

Completion of San Tin Village Flood Protection Scheme in April 2000 protecting 7 villages in this flood prone area.

Completion of Sewerage Master Plan works at HK Island South in end 2000, improving the water quality at Island South beaches.

The first high intensity ultra-violet disinfection facility installed in a DSD sewage treatment works (Shek Wu Hui).

Completion of a programme of 7 Drainage Master Plan studies which comprehensively reviewed the capacity of the drainage systems in HK.

Establishing a new Drainage Complaints Control Centre in December 2000.

Obtaining ISO 14001 certification for Tai Po Sewage Treatment Works.

Achieved savings amounting to $11 million in recurrent expenditure of 2000/01 under the Enhanced Productivity Programme.
