Dr. Cheng Luk-ki is currently the Division Head of Scientific Research and Conservation of Green Power and he has worked in local green groups for 19 years. He has ample experiences in coordinating community campaigns, educational programs and carrying out different research and surveys. He is the Chief Editor of Green Power’s bimonthly magazine – Green Country. He has been widely involved in issues regarding river conservation and wrote a series of books regarding the problems of human alternation of local major rivers.
Dr. Cheng acquired his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry in the University of Hong Kong. His research was about photophysics and photochemistry of platinum(II) compounds (the mechanisms and processes of interaction of light and some platinum compounds).
He was the member of various advisory bodies including 1997-2003 Member of Marine Mammal Conservation Working Group, Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department 1998 Member of Adhoc Working Group on Grading of Beach Water Quality 1998 Member of Working Group (Conservation and Use of Natural Environment) on Sustainable Development for 21st Century 2003 Special consultative group for developing the Environmental Conservation Gallery (the Hong Kong Science Museum) (LCSD)
His past and present work includes local and international environmental issues, monitoring and checking the environmental performance of major development projects. His current interested issues include: 1. Geology, ecology, pollution, landuse and restoration of local rivers 2. Seasonal variation of local butterflies 3. Air pollution and weather in Hong Kong 4. Urban heat island effect |
