Enhancement Works for Kwun Tong Sewage Pumping Station
To cater for future development of East Kowloon, the Drainage Services Department (DSD) will enhance the Kwun Tong Sewage Pumping Station (KTSPS), which is situated near Kwun Tong Bypass and Wai Yip Street. The enhancement works have commenced in late 2017 and are scheduled for completion in end 2022. This newsletter provides the latest information on the progress of construction and related information of the project.
About the Project
To cope with anticipated increase in sewage flows due to future development in Kwun Tong, there is a need to upgrade the existing KTSPS. The DSD is constructing an underground balancing facility with a storage capacity of 16,000m³. The facility will serve to improve operation robustness of the KTSPS as well as the adjacent Kwun Tong Preliminary Treatment Works (KTPTW). The enhancement works also include covering the whole KTSPS with a roof structure. To maximize the beneficial use of space, the roof structure will be transformed into a fully landscaped green area and opened to public for amenity use.
Progress of works
Foundation works are in progress. The photo shows the installation of reinforcement steel cage for bored piles.
To reduce the environmental and traffic impacts in the vicinity, excavated materials would be disposed to designated area by vessels. This method can suppress the generation of dust and avoid aggravating the traffic load in vicinity. The above map shows the proposed route of disposing the excavated material.
Engaging our Neighbours
The project team of DSD, the engineering consultants and the contractor introduced the project to Kwun Tong District Council members Mr. Tam Siu-cheuk and Mr. Cheng Keung-fung on 22nd November 2018 and 14th December 2018, and listened to their views.
Site Visit by the Assistant Director
Our Assistant Director / Sewage Services, Mr. Tsang Kwok-leung, Anthony paid much attention to this project. He inspected the site and supervised the works progress on the 15th November 2018 and 20th December 2018.
