Scope of Upgrading Works for Preliminary Treatment Works

Before entering into the sewage conveyance system, the sewage must be priliminarily treated at the preliminary treatment works (PTWs) to remove large solids and grit to avoid deposition in the deep tunnels and protect downstream treatment facilities.

The scope of the upgrading works comprises:

(a) upgrading of eight PTWs on Hong Kong Island along the route of the sewage conveyance system to cater for the new requirements of HATS stage 2A and the projected increase in population of the respective districts; and
(b) installation of comprehensive deodourisation systems at PTWs to eliminate odour nuisance, and the aesthetic and landscaping features.
