Wen Wei Po Interviewed DSD about Revitalising Water Bodies

On 4 May 2016, Wen Wei Po conducted an interview with our Senior Engineer of Land Drainage Division, Mr. LEUNG Wah-ming, Richard on the topic of Revitalising Water Bodies. The interview was followed by a site visit to upper Lam Tsuen River in Tai Po - a successful example of river revitalisation.

The interview covered the concept of revitalising water bodies, DSD’s on-going consultancy study on revitalising water bodies, as well as an introduction of some water body revitalisation projects which were completed, on-going or under planning. During the site visit at upper Lam Tsuen River, our Senior Engineer Mr. HO Tai-cheong, Patrick and our Engineer Mr. CHENG Man-wai, Marcus of Drainage Projects Division introduced the ecological and greening elements incorporated in the river channel and shared their experience and achievements in conserving Hong Kong Newts.

The initiative of applying the concept of revitalising water bodies to nullahs and river channels was announced in 2015 Policy Address. The aim of which is to beautify water bodies, enhance their biological value, and enable public enjoyment of water-friendly activities by adopting the concept of revitalising water bodies in large-scale drainage improvement works and planning drainage networks for new development areas, so as to build a better environment for the public.
