Stage 3 Public Engagement for Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns launched
21 December 2015
The Drainage Services Department has launched the Stage 3 Public Engagement for the Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns to provide an update on the project's progress and the latest relevant information, as well as to solicit views on the project. Members of the public are invited to participate in the related activities.
Views collected in the Stage 1 and 2 Public Engagements indicated that there was general public support for the relocation project. An environmental impact assessment for the project has been completed recently. The project is now at the detailed investigation and design stage. The Drainage Services Department launched a feasibility study for the project in 2012, confirming that after relocation of the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to the caverns at Nui Po Shan of A Kung Kok, about 28 hectares of land with sea frontage can be released from the old site for other uses. It can also improve the living environment of the surroundings, bringing both social and environmental benefits. The Stage 3 Public Engagement is being held until February 29, 2016. Activities include a roving exhibition and a community forum. Details are available at the project's website (http://www.ststwincaverns.hk/index.php?lang=en). Members of the public can also give their views through the following channels:
