Media interview with BD and DSD on the repair to private sewers at Wong Chuk Street in Sham Shui Po

2 September 2015

On 2 September 2015, Wen Wei Po, Ta Kung Pao and Sing Tao Daily interviewed Mr Colin CHENG Hang On, Senior Building Surveyor of the Buildings Department (BD), Mr Chris LAM Wai Wah, Engineer of the Drainage Services Department (DSD), and representatives of the relevant incorporated owners and property management company regarding the repair to private sewers at Wong Chuk Street and its adjacent rear lane in Sham Shui Po.

The interview covered the background of the aforesaid repair works, as well as BD’s coordination and liaison with various parties involved.  Our colleague, Mr Chris LAM, presented the details and difficulties of the repair works carried out by DSD on behalf of the responsible party.  The staff of BD clearly stated that private lot owners are liable for the maintenance of their private sewers.  Nevertheless, for exceptional cases involving a large number of buildings and owners or buildings with management problems, causing relevant owners unable to arrange the works amongst themselves, the Government will consider to carry out such works for them for public interest and recover the cost from them after completion of the works.
