DSD won Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects Design Awards 2014

5 December 2014

DSD clinched two accolades in the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects (HKILA) Design Awards 2014.  Among these, the project “Sewage Interception Scheme in Kowloon City – Pumping Stations” was bestowed the Silver Award under “Landscape Design (Public Development)” Category and the research item “Study of Green Roofs” was bestowed the Merit Award under “Research Study / Publication” Category.

HKILA Design Awards are held every two years to recognize outstanding achievements by landscape architects and students, to promote excellence in landscape planning, design and research, and to bring the work of local landscape architects and students to the public’s attention.

“Sewage Interception Scheme in Kowloon City” involves construction of two sewage pumping stations adjacent to the Kai Tak Development Area.  By adopting extensive greening and sinking the main buildings of the sewage pumping stations to create unique and special building forms, the design is intended to create an “Oasis for the Soul” which displays the features and natural beauty and energy of the district.

“Study of Green Roofs” was jointly conducted by DSD and Professor WAI Wing-hong, Onyx of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  With trial green roofs installed at Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works for collection of field data, the study aimed at exploring the feasibility of using green roofs as a means to improve runoff water quality and mitigate peak runoff, studying impact of strong wind on green roofs, and establishing design guidelines for roof greening at DSD facilities.
