DSD 30th Anniversary – Staff and Friends Pets Fun Day

18 May 2019

Staff and Friends Pets Fun Day was held on 18 May 2019 at Butterfly Valley Road Pet Garden which is located above the Stilling Basin of DSD Lai Chi Kok Drainage Tunnel. More than 80 DSD staff, relatives and friends along with more than 20 pets participated in the event.

It was the first pet-related event in DSD’s 30 years of groundwork. To enhance the participants’ understanding of the health of their pets, DSD invited Dr. Jane Gray, Deputy Director (Veterinary Services)/Chief Veterinary Surgeon of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), to provide health check service for pets. Ms Vivian Chiu, Education Manager of SPCA, also provided a presentation on ‘The Healthcare and Training of Pets’ to the participants.

A ‘Pet Dress-up Competition’, with the theme of Recycling and Reuse was also held on the same day. Colleagues and friends participated actively and created a new look for their pets using recycled materials.

Last but not least, DSD arranged guided tours which were led by professionals for participants. They can visit various facilities of Lai Chi Kok Drainage Tunnel, including the demonstration of discharging rainwater from the Stilling Basin through the intake shaft to the 45m deep main tunnel below, which excited all participants.
