DSD 30th Anniversary cum Completion of Harbour Area Treatment Scheme’s Main System Enhancement Works Ceremony

22 March 2019

The Drainage Services Department (DSD) celebrated its 30th anniversary cum completion of Harbour Area Treatment Scheme’s (HATS’) main system enhancement works at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works on 22 March 2019.  The Secretary for Development, Mr WONG Wai-lun, the Secretary for the Environment, Mr WONG Kam-sing, the Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr LAM Sai-hung, and the Deputy Secretary for the Environment, Ms YONG Bick-kwan, the Director of Drainage Services, Mr LO Kwok-wah, and the former Director of Drainage Services, Mr TONG Ka-hung, officiated the ceremony with the presence of guests and working partners.

2019 has been a remarkable year for DSD.  It is the 30th anniversary of DSD since its establishment in September 1989.  DSD has been striving to provide reliable sewage treatment and flood control services in Hong Kong, while this year coincided with the completion of HATS’ main system enhancement works, we unveiled the sculpture that symbolizes this special milestone – “Fish 1989” during the ceremony.

“Fish 1989” symbolized a key milestone of DSD’s 30th anniversary.  DSD has been committed to improving the water quality of Victoria Harbour.  The sculpture embodied 1989 fishes swimming in unison to the same goal and pieced together to form the DSD logo.  It represents that DSD has kept on providing world-class wastewater and stormwater drainage services to the public since its establishment in 1989.
