DEVB and Shenzhen Government sign second entrustment agreement for Regulation of Shenzhen River Stage IV

27 December 2013

The Development Bureau today (December 27) signed an agreement with the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government (Shenzhen Government) to entrust the duties of management and supervision for the second contract of the river works under the Regulation of Shenzhen River Stage IV to the Shenzhen River Regulation Office of the Shenzhen Government. This contract is also the last contract for the Stage IV project.

The agreement was signed by the Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Chan Chi-ming, and the Deputy Secretary General of the Shenzhen Government, Mr Xu Chongguang. The Shenzhen River Regulation Office of the Shenzhen Government will sign the works contract with the contractor Shenzhen Shengang Construction Group Co Ltd on December 30.

The Regulation of Shenzhen River Stage IV will improve the upstream portion of the Shenzhen River by raising the flood protection levels of the proposed Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point (BCP) and nearby areas to meet relevant standards. The RMB 241.6 million works contract is the second river works contract of the Stage IV project. It comprises the regulation of about two and a half kilometres of Shenzhen River between the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai BCP and Pak Fu Shan and the implementation of associated drainage and landscaping works. It is anticipated that the drainage capacity of Shenzhen River between Ping Yuen River and Pak Fu Shan will be increased to a level that can withstand rainstorms with a return period of one in 50 years upon completion of the whole project in end 2017.

Subsequent to the completion of Stages I, II and III in 1997, 2000 and 2006 respectively, the flood prevention levels of the middle and downstream portions of Shenzhen River have been raised, alleviating the flooding problem on both sides of the river, including in Yuen Long and North District.
