DSD and Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates Exchange Views on Climate Resilience, Flood Management and Renewable Energy

Mr. Ringo MOK Wing-cheong, Director of Drainage Services, welcomed H.E. Shaikh Saoud Ali Almualla, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Hong Kong and his team on 3 June 2026 to exchange views on sustainable development, climate resilience, green infrastructure, renewable energy, and flood management.
The DSD introduced Hong Kong's "Integrated Flood Management Strategy", comprising adaptation, resilience and management measures. The DSD also shared its work in enhancing flood resilience through flood protection infrastructure, smart technologies and blue green infrastructure, alongside its experience in the application of renewable energy technologies in its sewage treatment works and stormwater drainage facilities.
H.E. Shaikh Saoud Ali Almualla and his team shared their national strategies and latest sustainability initiatives in water security, clean energy transition, carbon reduction, renewable energy development, treated wastewater reuse and flood prevention. The Consulate team also expressed interest in Hong Kong's drainage management and sustainable infrastructure development.
Following the meeting, H.E. Shaikh Saoud Ali Almualla and his team conducted a site visit to DSD's San Tin Stormwater Pumping Station and San Tin Polder. During the site visit, the DSD introduced the operation of the stormwater pump, as well as renewable energy and green features, including the floating photovoltaic system and ecological floating island.
The exchange deepened mutual understanding on flood prevention, emergency response, early warning systems, advanced treatment technologies, renewable energy application and sustainable infrastructure development, while exploring future professional collaboration in addressing the shared challenges arising from climate change and sustainable urban development.
