27 January 2026

In order to tie-in with the implementation of the remaining works of the "Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns" project, the Drainage Services Department held a ceremony today (January 27) with the contractors and suppliers to sign the five relevant contracts at a total contract sum of about $9.4 billion.

The Director of Drainage Services, Mr Ringo MOK, said at the contract signing ceremony, "The Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns differs from ordinary construction project, requiring multiple contractors and suppliers to work and collaborate with each other, both inside and outside the caverns, under a highly overlapping schedule. The signing of these five contracts remarks an important milestone of the project."

Among the five contracts, two of the contracts cover the civil construction of the cavern sewage treatment facilities as well as installation and testing of electrical and mechanical works. The other three contracts are direct procurement contracts for various sewage treatment systems. A full list of contractors and suppliers is provided as below:

The five contracts cover multiple key engineering disciplines. Some of the contracts invited tenderers globally, by which contractors and suppliers from Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, and overseas successfully bid the contracts, bringing talents and expertise of diverse backgrounds together. This not only reflects the diversity of the project, but also demonstrates Hong Kong's uniqueness as an international metropolis. The DSD also adopted direct procurement for the first time in this project to reduce capital costs. Mr Ringo MOK expressed his expectation that contractors and suppliers would work closely with the DSD's project team, embracing the spirit of partnership under the "New Engineering Contract" mechanism to tackle challenges and difficulties, and ensuring the project to be completed on schedule safely and cost-effectively.
