Media interviewed DSD on Thematic Manhole Cover Design Competition
3 October 2025
DSD Senior Engineer, Ms Doris CHOY Man-yee, and Engineer, Mr Daniel CHAN Yu-kwan, were interviewed by the media on 3 October 2025, to introduce the "Thematic Manhole Cover Design Competition" and showcase the winning designs installed across various districts. The interview also featured Champion Mr LAM Hiu-ming and First Runner-up Mr WONG Kwong-tat, who shared the inspiration behind their winning designs.
Ms CHOY mentioned that the competition received enthusiastic responses, with around 2,600 entries—almost double the number from previous years. An online voting section was newly added to enhance public engagement. The Prize Presentation Ceremony was held last December during the "Open Ceremony of Revitalisation of Tsui Ping River".
Mr CHAN highlighted the key considerations in casting the thematic manhole covers, such as line thickness, coloring effects, anti-slip surface textures, as well as the necessary information and functionality of the covers. Seven winning designs were selected, with approximately ten covers produced for each design. These covers will be gradually installed in different districts, and the public is warmly invited to discover these hidden urban artworks and experience the unique charm of Hong Kong.
