Joint Press Conference on Precautionary Measures for Super Typhoon Ragasa

In view of Super Typhoon Ragasa edging closer to Hong Kong, the Drainage Services Department (DSD), the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) and the Home Affairs Department (HAD) held a joint press conference on September 22 to release the latest flood risk assessment and brief the public on the corresponding response measures.
The Director of Drainage Services, Mr Ringo MOK, introduced the "Mosaic Model Map"(M3) – a self-developed flood risk visualization system in application by the DSD for the first time to assess the flood risk and identify areas with a higher possibility of serious flooding. Apart from regular precautionary measures, he further reported the special operational measures implemented by the DSD including increasing the number of emergency response teams, deploying powerful pumping robots on standby in advance at locations with higher risk of flooding, and together with the CEDD, distributing more sandbags to the public in the affected areas, etc.
After that, the Head of the Civil Engineering Office, CEDD, Mr Ricky WONG, Assistant Director of Drainage Services/Operations & Maintenance, Mr Edwin LAU, Chief Engineer of the CEDD, Mr CHEUNG Wing-hong and Chief Engineer of the DSD, Ms Esther YUEN provided a detailed elaboration on the possible scenario and corresponding emergency response and relief measures that have been implemented at each identified spot that may have serious flooding risk. The Deputy Director of the HAD, Ms Belinda WONG also explained the initiated response measures including the opening arrangement of the temporary shelters.
