Eco Expo Asia 2025 returns in October
25 September 2025
Eco Expo Asia 2025 will take place from 28 to 31 October 2025 at the AsiaWorld-Expo. The first three days are exclusively for trade visitors, with the last day also open to the public. Under the theme "Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality", the Expo will focus on the technological innovations crucial to global decarbonisation. As an important event for the environmental industry, Eco Expo Asia has been providing a platform for showcasing innovative green products and services, discovering the latest trends and expanding business networks. Eco Expo Asia 2025 will continue to bring together industry leaders from various sectors to advance Hong Kong's transformation into a more sustainable and livable city.
The Drainage Services Department (DSD) will introduce the following two innovations in the Eco Expo Asia 2025.
Mosaic Model Map (M³)
Real-time Territorial Flood Risk Visualisation System
M³ is a real-time flood risk visualisation tool that employ a hydraulic model to evaluate flood risks across Hong Kong under various rainfall and tide level scenarios, with over 3,000 pre-simulated conditions. The system continuously gathers real-time hydrological data 24 hours, along with rainfall and tidal forecasts for the next one to two hours. It then compares predictive data with pre-simulated scenarios to display flood risk levels across different districts on a single platform, updating continuously. This assists DSD in identifying high-risk flood areas 1 to 2 hours before heavy rain, enabling timely resource allocation and rapid deployment of emergency response teams to address potential flooding, such as clearing drainage channels, thereby minimising community impact.
CRISmart
CRISPR-based Smartphone Microbial Assay for Rapid Testing
CRISmart is a portable, CRISPR-powered smartphone platform for rapid on-site microbial analysis in sewage. Jointly developed by the DSD and the City University of Hong Kong, it utilises the CRISPR-Cas12a system to quickly quantify key microorganisms for sewage treatment, such as nitrifying bacteria and E. coli. This capability enables operators to efficiently optimise sewage treatment processes. With its portability and speed, CRISmart offers a powerful new solution for monitoring and management of modern sewage treatment plants.
