DSD Site Safety Forum 2025 cum Construction Sites Safety and Housekeeping Award Presentation Ceremony

19 August 2025

Drainage Services Department Site Safety Forum 2025 cum Site Safety and Housekeeping Award Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 19 August at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. The Forum featured a series of thematic speeches and technical sharing sessions to enhance the awareness of site safety and housekeeping among the department's staff, contractors and site supervision teams. The event also served to commend contractors and emergency response teams for their significant contributions in responding to extreme weather during this year's rainy season, as well as recognise contractors and supervision teams with outstanding performance in site safety and housekeeping over the past year.

In his opening address, Mr Ringo MOK Wing-cheong, Director of Drainage Services, stated that the department had comprehensively reviewed and enhanced safety measures for working in confined spaces in the last year, and established "Special Safety Audit Teams" to elevate safety standards for maintenance works. He also encouraged all colleagues, contractors and site supervision teams to continue working together to build a better and safer future for Hong Kong's construction industry.

Hong Kong has been facing increasingly frequent extreme weather events. Since last year, the Drainage Services Department has commenced advance deployment for the rainy season by increasing the number of emergency response teams from over 160 last year to over 180 this year to enhance preparedness for handling emergency flooding incidents. Prior to the onset of heavy rain, the department  dispatched teams to inspect and clear approximately 240 locations prone to flooding due to blockage. During rainstorms, DSD rapidly deployed personnel and utilised multiple high-capacity drainage robots, including "Mobile Powerful Pumping Robots" and "Amphibious Pumping Robots", to efficiently drain flooded areas within a short period, striving to minimise impact on the public.

In recognition of these efforts, DSD presented Certificates of Commendation to the relevant contractors and representatives of frontline staff, honouring their dedication and hard work in maintaining public safety under challenging weather conditions.

A total of 60 contract teams participated in the 2024 awards scheme, in which 21 teams with exceptional performance received awards presented by the Director of Drainage Services, Deputy Director, Assistant Directors and Senior Systems Manager. The "Grand Award" of the 2024 scheme was presented to the contractor and site supervision team for Contract No. DC/2022/05 - "Sau Nga Road Floodwater Storage Scheme", namely Kwan Lee - Chun Wo Joint Venture and DSD's Drainage Project Division respectively.

We would like to once again express our gratitude to all contractors and emergency response teams that participated in responding to extreme weather and extend our congratulations to all winning teams for their contributions to maintaining safety and housekeeping standards at the department's sites. We look forward to their continued support and participation in this scheme.
