DSD Annual Media Briefing 2025

The Drainage Services Department held its Annual Media Briefing on 14 April, with the theme of "Empowering Smart Flood Management with Innovation", to introduce the department's work in developing and applying innovative technologies to enhance the ability in responding to extreme weather and efficiency of sewage treatment.
At the briefing, Mr Ringo MOK Wing-cheong, the Director of the Drainage Services Department, stated that the department will continue to strengthen its capabilities in responding extreme weather events and promote drainage improvement projects, thereby enhancing flood resilience of Hong Kong. The Chief Engineer/Sewerage Projects, Ms Suki PUN Siu-kit, and the Chief Engineer/Hong Kong and Islands, Mr CHAN Hak-keung, respectively presented several innovation and technologies’ projects, including "Pilot Scheme on Wading Line System", "Digital Twin", "Application of Aerobic Granular Sludge (AGS) Technology", and "Application of Moving Bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR) Technology", as well as shared achievement at International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva 2025 and outlook for our works.
After the briefing, Mr Ringo MOK Wing-cheong, the Director of the Drainage Services Department, toured the media around the construction side of the "Yuen Long Barrage and Nullah Improvement Schemes" to understand the project progress. The project will feature six super drainage pumps, with a total flow rate of 300 cubic meters per second, equivalent to the amount of water that can drain seven Olympic-sized swimming pools every minute. A series of inspection, desilting, and drainage robots are placed on the construction site to showcase how the department applies technologies into drainage work, increase work efficiency and enhance safety standard of frontline staff. Moreover, we demonstrated the operation of the newly drainage robots "Mobile Powerful Pumping Robot" for increasing the effectiveness on handing flooding incidents.
