Drainage Services Department Exchanges Insights with 58 Global Cities to Create Shared Sustainable Development Vision

The Director of Drainage Services, Mr Ringo MOK, attended the 3rd Senior Officials Meeting of the Global City Network for Sustainability (G-NETS) in Tokyo, Japan from 7 to 9 May 2025.  Addressing representatives from 58 cities worldwide, Mr MOK delivered a speech titled "Walking with the Climate Change: How Hong Kong Outthink Disasters Before They Strike" and shared Hong Kong's valuable experience and achievements gained through longstanding flood prevention and mitigation endeavours.

Mr MOK emphasised Hong Kong's ongoing commitment to enhancing flood resilience in response to long-term challenges posed by climate change.  The Drainage Services Department will adopt a progressive adaptive approach, implementing an Integrated Flood Management Strategy encompassing "Adaptation", "Resilience" and "Management" to proactively address future development trends.

During the conference, delegates exchanged in-depth the flood management technologies, strategic planning expertise and implementation experience.  Participants explored future development directions, facilitating learning about diverse climate adaptation measures employed by different cities to promote sustainable urban development worldwide.
