DSD held Pre-wet Season Stakeholder Meeting

The Drainage Services Department (DSD) held a pre-wet season stakeholder meeting on March 19, 2025, focusing on three main themes including overview of flood prevention in Hong Kong, measures to enhance capacity against extreme weather events, and pre-wet season precautionary measures.  Participating stakeholders included Hong Kong Red Cross, MTR, Link, CLP Power, Hong Kong Electric, Towngas, Hong Kong Federation of Insurers, and various professional institutes in property management namely Property Management Services Authority, Chartered Institute of Housing Asian Pacific Branch, Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies Limited, the Hong Kong Association of Property Services Agents and Hong Kong Institute of Housing.  Representatives from various government departments including Highways Department, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Architectural Services Department, Buildings Department, Civil Engineering and Development Department, Water Supplies Department, Home Affairs Departments, Civil Aid Service and Housing Authority also joined the meeting.

DSD introduced various measures to combat extreme rainfall and storm surge, including adaptation, resilience and management measures.  DSD also encouraged all public utilities/organizations and property management sectors to strengthen the resilience measures for their facilities such as installing flood barriers to reduce  losses due to adverse weather such extreme rainfall or storm surge.  Following the meeting, DSD arranged a demonstration of eight types of flood barriers, which could effectively stop ingress of water into building or facilities and avoid the impact of flooding.

With approaching of rainy season, DSD appealed to all stakeholders for carrying out pre-wet season preventive inspection and maintenance to their drainage facilities and to implement resilience measures for their important facilities so as to safeguard the public.
