Secretary for Development Bureau, Ms Bernadette LINN Hon-ho, invited Mr Antony WAN Nam-fung, Senior Engineer of the Drainage Services Department (DSD), to explain the project concepts and challenges of the "Revitalising Tsui Ping River" project in the blog. Kwun Tong District Council Member Mr Wilson OR Chong-shing, MH, and nearby residents were also invited to share their views on the new facilities.
Mr WAN introduced the history of Tsui Ping River and the project objectives, which involve the transformation of about one kilometre of the existing nullah alongside King Yip Street, King Yip Lane and Tsui Ping Road. Through the enhancement of flood prevention capacity and the improvement of environmental, ecological and landscape beautification, the nullah is being converted into a beautiful riverside public space.
Mr WAN elaborated on the challenges and achievements of the project. To enhance flood prevention capacity, the DSD removed some drainage bottlenecks, rebuilt a footbridge, and deepened the river channel. In addition, a smart water gate was installed to improve water quality. Riverside walkways and a pontoon were also constructed to strengthen connectivity. Plants and ecological installations were introduced along the river to create favorable conditions for the river ecosystem, while a landscape deck was also added to provide public open space and enhance natural ambiance of the area.
Mr OR said that the revitalised Tsui Ping River serves flood prevention, conservation and recreational purposes, meeting public expectation. Nearby residents reported a significant improvement in odour after the revitalisation and expressed pleasure at seeing various natural species inhabiting the river, attracting more public to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the river.

DSD Senior Engineer, Mr Antony WAN Nam-fung, introduced "Tsui Ping River" would be transformed under the concept of "Rivers in the City" without compromising its stormwater drainage function and capacity.
The smart water gate located downstream of Tsui Ping River near Hung To Road. The rise and fall of the water gate will be adjusted in accordance with the tides to ensure sufficient water in the Tsui Ping River. This reduces the chance of the river drying up and alleviates odour issues.
