The Innovation and Technology Commission organised the Reception for Innovation and Technology Awards 2024 in July this year in recognition of the outstanding achievements of Hong Kong's talent in the field of innovation and technology (I&T) on the Mainland and overseas in the past year, which include several works departments of the Development Bureau. Secretary for Development Bureau, Ms Bernadette LINN Hon-ho invited colleagues from various departments to introduce in her blog the award-winning projects, achievements, as well as how the I&T was used to enhance work efficiency. DSD engineers Ms Jolly CHAN Pui-ching and Mr Dennis HO Ka-kit introduced in the blog the DSD's two award-winning I&T projects, namely "Virtual Construction Safety Assistant" (the Assistant) and "Tumbler Inspection Ball (TlB) Robot".
Ms CHAN explained that the Assistant integrated image analysis and text understanding so as to identify the unsafe hazards and behaviours that might have occurred at construction sites, thereby enhancing site safety.
Mr HO stated that the TIB broke through the traditional limitations of pipeline inspection. Its unique design allowing it stayed upright as it sailed down pipes and tunnels even under turbulent flow conditions, making the pipeline inspection more efficient and stable.
