SDEV's Blog: The Drainage Services Department's Distinctive Facilities for Beautification of and Integration into the Community

Secretary for Development Bureau, Ms Bernadette LINN Hon-ho invited DSD engineers, Ms Eugune QIU Yu-jing, Mr Daniel CHAN Yu-kwan, and Mr Derrick KWOK Tsz-ho, to present how thematic manhole covers and river beautification facilities, better connecting with the citizens, community and nature.

Ms QIU mentioned that in response to the "Hong Kong New Cityscape clean-up campaign", the DSD has identified a few tourist attractions with local characteristics and high pedestrian flow to install thematic manhole covers since 2022, including Tai O and Lei Yue Mun, creating good check-in spots for citizens and tourists.

Mr CHAN introduced the thematic manhole covers in the vicinity of Lam Tsuen Wishing Square. Designed with the theme of the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees, the thematic manhole covers enrich the artistic ambience of public spaces in the community and enhance the image of drainage system.

Lastly, Mr KWOK took Wong Chuk Hang Nullah as an example, introduced how to integrate the concept of "Rivers in the City" into river revitalization projects, providing more public open spaces for citizens.
