21 June 2024
DSD Senior Engineer, Ms Karen CHAN Ka-yan, and DSD Engineer, Mr Jackel TANG Tze-fai, introduced the Drainage Improvement Works in Tsim Sha Tsui during an interview by Oriental Daily News on 21 June 2024.
During the interview, Ms CHAN said that to further reduce the risk of flooding in the Tsim Sha Tsui area and cope with the challenges posed by climate change, the DSD is currently carrying out the Drainage Improvement Works in Tsim Sha Tsui. The scope of the works includes construction of an underground stormwater storage tank in the Urban Council Centenary Garden, as well as new stormwater drains in the neighboring streets so as to enhance the capacity of the drainage system.
Mr TANG then elaborated on the features, challenges, and innovative elements of the project. Mr TANG added that the under-construction underground stormwater storage tank has two levels, with the lower level for stormwater storage and the upper one near the surface for accommodating electrical and mechanical facilities, in order to reduce the above-ground space to be occupied and optimise land utilisation.
