Information Services Department Interviewed DSD on the “Smart Drainage Monitoring Sensors” and Desilting Robots

6 July 2023

The Information Services Department (ISD) interviewed DSD Engineer, Ms Stephanie FENG Xue and Ms Joey HO Chung-yan on 6 July 2023, to introduce the “Smart Drainage Monitoring Sensors” and desilting robots.

In the interview, Ms FENG said that the DSD has installed over 250 “Smart Drainage Monitoring Sensors”, such as rain gauges and water level sensors, at different locations across the territory, to collect real-time data on rainfall, water levels, and tidal levels round the clock. Ms FENG added that operator can make use of the Hydrological Information System installed in their mobile phones and computers to monitor the condition of the main rivers and drainage channels.

Ms HO explained that the DSD has introduced robots in helping desilting in drainage facilities. Operators can control the desilting robots remotely to enter box culverts and rivers to conduct desilting works, which would not have affected by tides, thereby increasing the flexibility and efficiency of th e desilting works, and improving the occupational safety of workers.
