Tai O • Manhole Cover Facelift

As one of the government initiatives launched under the "Hong Kong New Cityscape clean-up campaign" this year, the Drainage Services Department has identified a few tourist attractions with Hong Kong local characteristics and high pedestrian flow, including Tai O, Lei Yue Mun and Kai Tak River, to install thematic manhole covers. The initiative aims to arouse public's interest in public drainage system while beautifying our community and providing wonderful venues for the enjoyment of citizens and tourists.
"Tai O • Manhole Cover Facelift" will be held on 17 December 2022 from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm at Tai O Entrance Square and Tai O Rural Committee Square. During the event, the Drainage Services Department will set up booths at the Tai O Rural Committee Square and arrange printing workshop for the public. The public can print the pattern of Tai O's thematic manhole cover on Eco Bags by screen printing and rubbing personally. Participants can also use imagination to put colour on the Eco Bags for creating their own masterpieces. The public may also choose to redeem a Thematic Eco Bag after orienteering through the alleys in Tai O. The activity tickets and orienteering game passports will be distributed at Tai O Entrance Square at 11:30 am on a first come, first served basis while stock lasts. The public may wish to visit the thematic manhole covers with unique Tai O characteristics at any time of the day at Tai O Market Street and Kat Hing Street.
In addition, the Drainage Services Department would also hold a small scale exhibition on the history of manhole covers at the Tai O Entrance Square. Some old-style manhole covers produced at different times, as well as the new thematic manhole covers recently installed in Tai O, Lei Yue Mun and Kai Tak River will be displayed in the exhibition.
