SDEV’s Blog: Sau Nga Road Stormwater Storage Scheme

28 February 2022

The Secretary for Development, Mr Michael WONG Wai-lun, mentioned in his blog the government will seek funding approval of about $8.4 billion for carrying out drainage improvement works in various districts. He invited DSD Engineer Ms Kate KWONG Siu-ting to introduce one of the projects, the Sau Nga Road Stormwater Storage Scheme.

Ms Kwong said that the DSD plan to build a 64,000 cubic metres (which is equivalent to the total volume of 25 standard swimming pools) stormwater storage tank beneath the Sau Nga Road Playground to relieve the flooding problem in Kwun Tong.

She expressed that the construction of underground stormwater storage tank not only is effective in reducing flood risk, but also can avoid conducting extensive drainage improvement works at busy streets. We can also seize this opportunity to improve and provide more recreational facilities and space to achieve "single site, multiple use", which brings various benefits to the community.
