The Upgrading of San Wai Sewage Treatment Works project was awarded the ACEHK Annual Award 2021

1 December 2021

The Project Team, including DSD, AECOM Asia Company Limited and ATAL-Degremont-China Harbour Joint Venture, of Upgrading of San Wai Sewage Treatment Works won "The Association of Consulting Engineers of Hong Kong (ACEHK) Annual Award 2021", manifesting recognition of the engineering excellence, innovative spirits and dedication to sustainability by the engineering community.

The Upgrading of San Wai Sewage Treatment Works project is to replace the old San Wai Preliminary Treatment Works, by upgrading the existing preliminary treatment to Chemically Enhanced Primary Treatment process with ultraviolet disinfection and increasing the treatment capacity from 164,000m3/day to 200,000m3/day to reduce the pollution loads to the Northwestern waters due to population growth in the vicinity.

While sitting in rural context, away from high density developments and public facilities, the overall design of the new San Wai Sewage Treatment Works is in line with green concept and sustainable development.  To optimize the land use, innovative design and technology were adopted to achieve a compact treatment works design with increased volume of sewage handling capacity.  The project also adopts Building Information Modelling (BIM) throughout the whole design, construction and operation lifecycle.  The BIM technology adopted in operation stage will integrate with training, asset management, maintenance and optimization systems of San Wai Sewage Treatment Works to enhance the safety, quality and sewage treatment efficiency of the project.
