DSD receives several UK New Engineering Contract awards

Fives projects under the DSD had received a total of seven awards, including top prize in NEC Contract Innovation of the Year and NEC Water Project of the Year, under the New Engineering Contract (NEC) Users’ Group of the United Kingdom. The encouraging results depicted the determination of the DSD in implementing NEC through achieving collaborative partnership.

This year, “Expansion of Sha Tau Kok Sewage Treatment Works Phase 1 and Village Sewerage in Tong To” and “Upgrading of Shek Wu Hui Effluent Polishing Plant ‐ Main Works Stage 1” were named NEC Contract Innovation of the Year and Water Project of the Year respectively. The DSD swept all awards under the abovementioned categories. Meanwhile, “Expansion of Sha Tau Kok Sewage Treatment Works Phase 1 and Village Sewerage in Tong To” also came second in the newly introduced “NEC Sustainability and Climate Resilience” category.

Water Project of the Year

Winner: Upgrading of Shek Wu Hui Effluent Polishing Plant ‐ Main Works Stage 1

Runner Up: Construction of an Additional Sewage Rising Main between Tung Chung and Siu Ho Wan and Associated Works

Highly Commended: Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns

NEC Contract Innovation of the Year

Winner: Expansion of Sha Tau Kok Sewage Treatment Works Phase 1 and Village Sewerage in Tong To

Runner Up: Drainage Maintenance and Construction in Hong Kong Island and Islands Districts (2021-2025) And Building and Civil Maintenance and Minor Works to DSD Plants and Facilities (2020-2025)

Highly Commended: Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns

NEC Sustainability and Climate Resilience

The NEC Awards were established by the UKNEC Users' Group to recognise excellence in project delivery and showcase examples of good practice though collaboration from across the world. There are seven categories of awards, namely Transport Contract of the Year, Water Project of the Year, Building of the Year, Client of the Year, Contractor of the Year, Contract Innovation of the Year and Sustainability and Climate Resilience.

The Water Project of the Year award aims to commend the project that has practice collaboration in the project; the Contract Innovation of the Year aims to recognise projects that demonstrate innovation through use of key performance indicators, Scope/Works Information/Service Information or additional clause drafting. The Sustainability and Climate Resilience recognises projects which have set out to reduce their overall impact on the environment in terms of carbon emissions.

In addition, the contractor of “West Kowloon Drainage Improvement – Inter-reservoirs Transfer Scheme” was named NEC Contractor of the Year.
