RTHK Introduced DSD’s work on combating climate change

12 August 2020

Our Senior Engineer, Mr Tommy WONG Tak-shing gave interviews to “Environment and Health”, a Radio and Television Hong Kong (RTHK) programme on 12 August and 2 September 2020. The interviews covered the DSD’s work on combating climate change and the concepts behind the planning of flood prevention facilities.

In the programme, Mr WONG briefly introduced the DSD’s “three-pronged flood prevention strategy”, i.e. stormwater interception, stormwater storage and drainage improvement, which has proven to be effective in mitigating the flood risk arising from heavy rains. He also illustrated the design and operation of the DSD’s Village Flood Protection Schemes and Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme. Mr WONG shared that in planning and construction of flood prevention facilities, the DSD would not only consider their flood prevention performance but also attach great importance to natural environment and ecology conservation, and would apply new technologies to minimise energy consumption.

The programme was broadcast on 24 October 2020. To view the programme, please click the link below:
