On 4 September 2020, DSD Engineer Mr Jackel TANG Tze-fai introduced DSD’s flood prevention plan in Tsim Sha Tsui in an RTHK’s TV programme 830 Mag.
Mr TANG states that the Chatham Road South, in between Granville Road and Austin Avenue, is the only remaining flooding blackspot in urban area. DSD is planning to construct an underground stormwater storage scheme under Urban Council Centenary Garden and new drains in the vicinity to improve stormwater discharge. It is believed that through the abovementioned measures, the flooding risk in the district could be greatly alleviated. Mr TANG also briefly mentioned the potential challenges in the construction.
