“Hong Kong Biodiversity Festival 2019” Activity– “Preservation of Fireflies in River Channels Talk/Workshop”

19 October 2019

Being one of the partners of AFCD’s “Hong Kong Biodiversity Festival 2019”, Drainage Services Department (DSD) arranged “Preservation of Fireflies in River Channels Talk/Workshop” for the public at the Fireflies Education Centre of Firefly Conservation Foundation in Stewards Pooi Tun Secondary School on 19 October 2019.

Representatives from DSD and Firefly Conservation Foundation introduced the general knowledge of fireflies and improvement works for aquatic habitat in river channels in the New Territories.  Subsequently, the participants had a close look at the larvae and adults of fireflies as well as other water insects being taken care by students.  At the end of the activity, all of them made small beetles with light clay as a souvenir to bring back home.
