DSD's Speech introducing HATS at the ICE Awards Ceremony 2019

4 October 2019

The Harbour Area Treatment Scheme (HATS) was awarded the ICE's Edmund Hambly Medal in 2018 for its outstanding achievements in sustainable development. At the ICE Awards Ceremony held in UK on 4 October 2019, the DSD was invited to deliver a speech introducing the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme.

The Chief Engineer, Mr Lawrence LEE, mentioned in the video that the HATS is the largest ever built environmental infrastructure project in Hong Kong and the project took more than 20 years to complete. Since the full commissioning of the project, the water quality of the Victoria Harbour has been significantly improved. To upkeep the reliability of the sewage treatment system, the Department continues to carry out renewal and maintenance works for the plant facilities, and also implement various related projects to further improve the nearshore water quality of the Harbour.
