「Construction Safety Week 2018」 - Four DSD’s Works Contracts Honoured with Awards in the 24th Considerate Contractor Sites Award Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony

Jointly hosted by the Development Bureau and the Construction Industry Council in the seventh year, the Construction Safety Week 2018 was successfully held from 21 to 29 May 2018. Under the theme “Partnering for Safety Enhancement”, the curtain on the Construction Safety Week was lifted by a solemn kick-off ceremony cum conference. In addition to the conference, site visits and award presentation ceremony, the Construction Safety Week Carnival aiming at raising the awareness of health and safety of construction workers and their families as well as the public through innovative and educative booth games was launched, so as to draw construction workers, their families and the public's attention to occupational safety and health and unite practitioners in achieving a “Zero Accident” working environment.
21 May: Kick-off Ceremony and Conference / Award Presentation Ceremony for Innovation Safety Initiative Award – The Conference provided a platform for industry experts to share their views on promoting construction safety through Partnering for Safety Enhancement. The Innovative Safety Initiative Award promoted excellence in construction site safety and health through innovation and creativity.
 The Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Hon Chi-keung (left), and the Chairman of the Construction Industry Council, Mr Chan Ka-kui, officiated the Kick-off Ceremony 27 May: Construction Safety Week Carnival – Construction Safety Week Carnival was organised in this year. It delivered construction site safety and health messages to the public.  Through interactive game facilities, drew the public’s attention to the importance of construction site safety
29 May: Award Presentation Ceremony for the 24th Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme – The finale of Construction Safety Week 2018 was the 24th Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony. Our department continued to support construction safety and health promotion activities; in addition to seconding our staff to assist DEVB organizing various events of the Construction Safety Week, we also exerted to encourage our works contract teams actively participating in the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme.
The number of participating teams of DSD reached a record high this year. With 32 contract teams participating in the public works category, we competed for awards against other 156 participating teams from different Works Departments in aspects, including considerate attitude, work site safety and health, and environmental protection performance. Out of the 28 award-winning contracts in the public works category, our Department honoured with seven awards in four works contracts, including bronze, and 6 merit awards. The award winning list is as below: -
Remark: Each of the above 4 contracts also received “Model Worker” Award and “Model Frontline Supervisor” Award. The 24th Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme was ended with applause, and it also marked a perfect ending for the Construction Safety Week 2018. We hereby congratulate the award-winning teams again, wishing them performing outstandingly in the coming round of the Scheme, collaboratively uplifting of the safety and health, and working together towards the goal of achieving “Zero Accident”.
