DSD Research & Development Forum 2013 – Day 3

DSD Research & Development (R&D) Forum 2013 (The Forum) takes place at the Hong Kong Central Library and comprises four half-day sessions on (i) Sustainable Drainage (20 November); (ii) New Engineering Contract (28 November); (iii) Greening (3 December); and (iv) Wastewater Treatment (5 December).  The objective of the Forum is to foster collaboration amongst the government, tertiary institutions and practitioners in the industry on research and development that supports innovation in sustainable drainage and sewerage services in Hong Kong.

The 3rd day of the Forum on the theme “Greening” was successfully held in the afternoon of 3 December 2013 and attracted about 300 participants from various sectors.  The Director of Drainage Services, Ir Chan Chi-chiu, highlighted DSD’s vision and achievements on ecological enhancement in the welcome speech.  Following that, the Chairman of Advisory Council on the Environment, Prof. Lam Kwan-sing, Paul started the keynote address on nature conservation and highlighted the factors for protection of ecological system.

After the inspiring keynote speech, five distinguished speakers from Hong Kong Bird Watching Society, The Conservancy Association, Green Power, Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden Corporation and The Chinese University of Hong Kong shared with the audience their knowledge and research finding relating to ecological conservation, river management and river revitalization.  Assistant Director/Projects & Development, Ir Cheng Hung-leung summarized the 3rd session in his closing remarks and brought up the concept of "urban stream".
