The Secretary for the Civil Service visited the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works

5 March 2014

The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr. Paul TANG, visited the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works (STSTW) on 5 March to learn about the operation of the STSTW and the latest progress of the relocation of the STSTW to caverns project.

Occupying about 28 hectares of land, the STSTW is the largest secondary sewage treatment works in Hong Kong, which is currently serving more than 630,000 residents in Sha Tin District. DSD is planning to relocate the STSTW to caverns, with a view to releasing the existing site for housing and other beneficial uses, thereby improving the community and the environment as a whole. The feasibility study for the relocation project has been substantially completed, and DSD is preparing to proceed with the investigation and design for the project in late 2014.

Upon arrival to the STSTW, Chief Engineer (Sewage Treatment 1) Mr. CHUI Wai-sing and Chief Engineer (Sewerage Projects) Mr. LAI Cheuk-ho gave a brief introduction to Mr. TANG on the operation of STSTW and the planning of the relocation project. Accompanied by Mr. CHUI and Mr. LAI, Mr. TANG proceeded to visit the sewage treatment and water reclamation facilities. Mr. TANG also visited one of the green roofs to have a view on the proposed cavern site for the relocated plant at Nui Po Shan of A Kung Kok and gain a further understanding of the project.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Tang said he greatly appreciated colleagues' efforts and encouraged them to continue providing quality, efficient and professional services to the public.
