DSD Annual Media Briefing 2012

The DSD Annual Media Briefing was held on 30 March to introduce the Department’s flood prevention works.

Director of Drainage Services, Mr. Chan Chi-chiu, said that 1 flooding blackspot (Ho Chung River at Sai Kung) has been eliminated after a review this year, reducing the number of blackspots from 16 of last year to 15.  Flood prevention projects at 6 of them had been completed and their performance was being monitored. The DSD would consider removing the flooding blackspots subject to the monitoring results. While flood prevention works at other 7 blackspots were being  implemented, the remaining 2 blackspots, namely: Pok Fu Lam Village and Wong Chuk Hang Road, J/O Nam Long Shan Road, were under planning and design.

Mr. Chan Chi-chiu also briefed the media on the Department’s major flood prevention works, including Happy Valley Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme, Kai Tak River Improvement Works, Shenzhen River Regulation Project Stage IV, Hong Kong West Drainage Tunnel, Lai Chi Kok Drainage Tunnel and Tsuen Wan Drainage Tunnel.

As part of the Media Briefing, a guided tour to Tai Hang Tung Underground Stormwater Storage Tank was arranged for the media to introduce the facilities, operation and greening measures of the Tai Hang Tung Underground Stormwater Storage Scheme.
