DSD Research and Development Forum 2011

DSD held the annual Research & Development Forum (“the Forum”) on 24 November 2011 at the 5/F Auditorium, CSTDI at the North Point Government Offices. The objectives of the Forum are for DSD to foster the collaboration with local universities with common R&D interests and to provide world-class wastewater and stormwater drainage services enabling the sustainable development of Hong Kong. About 150 guests from the local tertiary institutions, green groups, colleagues from DSD and several related government departments, DSD’s consultants and contractors have joined the Forum. This is the first time DSD organizing the two themes, viz. “Hydrology and Hydraulics” and “Wastewater Treatment” into an one-day Forum.

The Director of Drainage Services, Ir Chan Chi-chiu, officiated at the morning session of the Forum and highlighted DSD’s continuing effort of promoting innovative engineering researches and solutions and collaboration with local universities with common R&D interest.  The opening was followed with five renowned local researchers giving presentation on their R&D studies under the theme “Hydrology and Hydraulics”. 

After the lunch break, the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Miss Janet Wong, officiated the afternoon session of the Forum. In her welcoming speech, Miss Wong introduced Innovation & Technology Fund (ITF) as funding support, the Hong Kong R&D Centre Programme, the use of Innovation and Technology in Public Sector, as well as the R&D Cash Rebate Scheme, of which were encouraging and promoting researches in Hong Kong.  Subsequent to the welcoming speech, six researchers were invited to present in six R&D studies relating to the theme “Wastewater Treatment”.  

The feedbacks from the Forum attendees were positive and encouraging.
