Community Tree Planting at Fuk Man Road, Sai Kung

16 November 2012

A community tree planting day, involving local representatives and students from Sai Kung Sung Tsun Catholic School (Primary Section) and St. Andrew’s Catholic Primary School, was held on 16 November 2011 in Fuk Man Road, Sai Kung.  The tree planting day marked the commencement of planting works for the 4,000m2 urban park which is being constructed on top of a decked nullah and the adjacent vacant land, under the DSD project “Improvement of Fuk Man Road Nullah in Sai Kung”. The project is due to complete in mid 2012.

The Director of Drainage Services, Mr. Chan Chi-chiu, gave a welcoming speech as a kick-off of the event. “Upon completion of the urban park next year, a new landscaped area covering 4,000m2 will be formed in the centre of Sai Kung town.  Special features tailored to suit the theme of Sai Kung, including a pavilion in the form of a sailing ship, and a dragon boat sculpture, will be seen in the park.” Mr. Chan said.

“I wish to take this opportunity to thank Sai Kung District Council and Sai Kung Rural Committee, for their continuous support for this project, in particular, on the ideas provided to enhance the urban park design and temporary traffic management measures for road improvement works under this project.  I also thank the participating schools of today’s event, their students also have submitted drawings in the theme of “My ideal Sai Kung Town” for the drawing competition held by DSD last year.  The drawings have been displayed on site hoardings to beautify the site areas.” Mr. Chan added.

Mr. Chan, together with other officiating guests, planted three bauhinia variegates.  Other guests and students also actively participated in planting trees and shrubs in the partially-completed urban park.
