The Drainage Services Department signed a works contract of about $493 million with China Geo-Engineering Corporation on 23 January 2018.  The contract aims at raising the reliability of the sewage treatment facility in Kowloon East and improving its environmental performance. The works include the construction of an underground sewage balancing facility with a capacity of 16,000 cubic metres and its associated facilities, a plant house with ventilation system and landscaped deck at the roof of plant house, together with the provision of deodorization facilities.  This 55-month works contract commenced on 31 December 2017.
