「Construction Safety Week 2017」- Five DSD’s Works Contracts Honoured with Awards of the 23rd Considerate Contractor Sites Award Scheme

Jointly hosted by the Development Bureau and the Construction Industry Council in the sixth year, the Construction Safety Week 2017 was successfully held from 21 to 26 September 2017. Under the theme “Workers’ behaviour”, the curtain on the Construction Safety Week was lifted by a solemn kick-off ceremony cum conference on 21 September.  In addition to the conference, site visits and award presentation ceremony, the Construction Safety Week Carnival was first introduced, aiming at raising the awareness of health and safety of construction workers and their families as well as the public through interactive and informative game booths, so as to draw construction workers’ attention to manage their own and each other’s safety behaviour at work and unite practitioners in achieving a “Zero Accident” working environment.
 

21 September: Kick-off Ceremony cum Conference – The Conference provided a platform for industry experts to share their views on promoting construction safety through workers’ behaviour.

23 September: Construction Safety Week Carnival – The interactive and informative game booths aimed at drawing construction workers’ attention to manage their own and each other’s behaviour at work.
 

Construction Safety Week Carnival was first introduced in this year.  Our colleagues in Safety Advisory Unit manned a booth game, and deliver construction site safety and health message to the public. There were 519 construction practitioners and attending guests wearing yellow or white
T shirts and safety helmets, to form the world's "Largest Human Image of a Safety Vest" and demonstrate the unity of the construction industry in promoting construction site safety. The attempt was recognized by Guinness World Records.
 

25 September: Site Visit – The organiser selected 9 construction sites with exemplary safety performances to conduct site visits, which provided opportunities for industry practitioners to draw upon the outstanding safety practices.

26 September: Award Presentation Ceremony for the 23rd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme – The finale of Construction Safety Week 2017 was the 23rd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony. Our department continued to support and promote construction safety and health; in addition to seconding our staff to assist DEVB organizing various events of the Construction Safety Week, we also exerted to encourage our works contract teams actively participating in the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme.

 

The number of participating teams of the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme reached a record high this year. With 28 contract teams participating in the public works category, competing for awards against other 166 participating teams from different Works Departments in aspects comprised of considerate attitude, work site safety and health, and environmental protection performance. Out of the 29 award-winning contracts in the public works category, our Department honoured with nine awards in five works contracts, including 1 silver, 1 bronze, and 7 merit awards.  The award winning list is as below: -

The 23rd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme was ended with applause, and it also marked a perfect ending for the Construction Safety Week 2017. We hereby congratulate the award-winning teams again, wishing them outstanding performance in the coming round of the Scheme, as well as collaboratively uplifting work safety and health standard and working together towards the goal of achieving “Zero Accident”.
