DSD Annual Media Briefing on Flood Prevention for Rainy Season 2011

11 April 2011

To provide an update to the media and public on the progress of flood prevention works being carried out by DSD, a media briefing and a site visit to Wo Yi Hop Intake of the Tsuen Wan Drainage Tunnel was held on 11th April, 2011.

Tsuen Wan Drainage Tunnel comprises the construction of a drainage tunnel of approximately 5.1 km in length, with an internal diameter of 6.5 m; 3 intakes at Wo Yi Hop, Lo Wai and Tso Kung Tam; and 1 outfall at Yau Kom Tau. Upon completion of the project, the drainage tunnel will reduce the flood risk in Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung by intercepting excess stormwater from the upland catchments for direct discharge into the sea.

Construction of Tsuen Wan Drainage Tunnel commenced in December 2007 and is scheduled for completion in end 2012.
