Introduction

Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Works is the first tertiary sewage treatment plant in Hong Kong.  It has been in operation since late 2005.  The high quality effluent provides a good opportunity for effluent reuse.

Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Information Centre Entrance A newly-furnished information centre "Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Information Centre" is located inside the plant.  Public can visit the centre and get to know more about tertiary sewage treatment and the effluent reuse pilot scheme via various activities.

Exhibition Areas

The centre is divided into 4 different zones to introduce general sewage treatment in Hong Kong; the effluent reuse scheme; the process of tertiary sewage treatment; and Total Water Management.

Interactive Zone

This zone provides you with more information about the subjects and, at the same time, fun through taking part in interesting computer games and video film.

Fish Pond

Reclaimed water is used in a fish pond for rearing aquarium fish.

Opening Hours:

Tuesdays to Sundays : 10:00am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm – 4:30pm

Closed on Mondays and on the following public holidays: New Year Day, The First, Second and Third Day of the Chinese New Year, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day

How to go: Travel by public transport to Ngong Ping, Lantau.  The plant is right next to the Public Transport Interchange outside the Cable Car Terminal.

Group Visit:The plant also offers organized visits to secondary school students or above. Groups of 20 to 30 students are preferred.  Please download the application form and the Form of Undertaken 1, and return to DSD either by fax or by email.  The Form of Undertaking 2 may be returned to us on the date of the scheduled visit. 

Remarks

1. Please note Tung Chung Road and South Lantau Road are restricted for vehicles with permit  only.

2. The department reserves the right to close the centre due to bad weather (e.g. red rainstorm warning or typhoon signal 3) without advance notice.
