Overview of Sewage Treatment and Sewerage System in 2019-20

Our professional team is dedicated to providing highly efficient sewage collection, treatment and discharge services, while conducting regular repair and maintenance work to ensure effective operation in every particular, so as to provide Hong Kong with world-class sewage treatment services. At the same time, leveraging advanced technologies and modern facilities, we make every effort to ensure that our facilities meet the established environmental protection objectives and to minimise the discharge of pollutants. Looking ahead, we will continue to expand the coverage of Hong Kong's sewerage system, while improving sewage treatment facilities to protect the quality of local waters and promote the sustainable development of Hong Kong.

Average daily sewage treated 2.8 million cubic metres; annual sewage treated is about 1.033 billion cubic metres; Chemically Enhanced Primary Treatment (CEPT): 75.8%; Secondary Treatment: 18.8%; Preliminary Treatment: 4.9%; Primary or Tertiary Treatment: 0.5%; Annual sludge collected and treated is about 381 000 tonnes; total length of sewerage network is around 1 900 kilometres; the public sewerage network serves: around 93.7% of Hong Kong’s population (calculations based on the number of domestic water bill accounts with sewage charges levied); 70 Sewage Treatment Works; 254 Sewage Pumping Station
