Director deeply concerned about incident in tunnel (13/12/1999)

The Director of Drainage Services, Mr John Collier, said this (Monday) evening that he was deeply concerned about today's incident at a sewage tunnel under construction off Chai Wan in which eight workers were injured in a No. 2 alarm fire.

"In particular, I wish the injured speedy recovery," Mr Collier said.

"Meanwhile, we are closely liaising with the contractor of the project to see what assistance we can render to these workers," he added.

"The Drainage Services Department will investigate the cause of the incident in conjunction with other government departments," Mr Collier said.
