Stage 2 public engagement for relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to caverns launched (Date: 26/7/2013)

26 July 2013

The Drainage Services Department launched today (July 26) the Stage 2 Public Engagement for the feasibility study on the relocation of the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to caverns to collect the public’s views on the proposal. Members of the public are welcome to participate in the activities.

The stage 1 public engagement exercise ended in March this year. The views collected indicated that the public in general welcomed the relocation proposal. The Stage 2 Public Engagement aims to further consult the public regarding the results of the preliminary technical assessments on areas of concern as well as the latest progress and recommendations of the feasibility study.

Relocating the Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to caverns can release the existing site for housing, enhancement of the environment and other uses that benefit the community. As for caverns, they can serve as natural barriers to enclose the sewage treatment facilities. Together with appropriate odour control measures and a remote ventilation shaft, more effective odour management can be achieved.

The Stage 2 Public Engagement will be held until October 18. Activities include roving exhibitions and a public forum. Details are available at the project’s website (www.STSTWinCaverns.hk). Members of the public are invited to give their views through the following channels on or before October 18:
