DSD awards contract for improvement works in Sai Kung (04/09/2009)
4 September 2009
The Drainage Services Department (DSD) today (September 4) awarded a $50 million contract to improve the existing Fuk Man Road Nullah in Sai Kung.
The works comprise the decking of about 180 metres long and 12 metres wide of the open nullah at Fuk Man Road in Sai Kung; landscaping works on the decked nullah and adjacent Government land, and local road junction improvement. Upon completion, a landscaped amenity area of approximately 4,000 square metres will be provided for the enjoyment of the public.
The project adopts a "New Engineering Contract" (NEC) which is a new form of contract introduced for public works projects. Under NEC, all parties in the contract, including the project management office and the contractor, will need to follow the contract conditions under the NEC to manage the project in a partnering manner.
Speaking after the contract signing ceremony, the Assistant Director of Drainage Services (Projects & Development), Mr Tsui Wai, said that the use of the NEC would integrate a partnering approach into the contractual relationship among parties involved in the project.
"Through the implementation of contractual partnering, a high level of mutual trust and co-operation can be established among the parties involved, thus minimising the number of contractual disputes and avoiding delay," Mr Tsui said.
