To provides reception and co-digestion facilities in Yuen Long South Effluent Polishing Plant for the co-digestion of sewage sludge from effluent polishing plant and pre-treated food waste in New Territories West up to 100 wet tonnes per day

The project provides opportunity to co-locate the food waste and sewage sludge co-digestion facilities in Yuen Long South Effluent Polishing Plant, to achieve the principle of “Single Site, Multiple Use”.  The proposed co-digestion facilities would increase biogas yield and enhance energy recovery whilst promoting renewable energy development.  Recycling of food waste would also save valuable landfill space and decrease the generation of landfill gas, contributing to the sustainability and circularity in waste management as well as the carbon neutrality target of Hong Kong
