Organic waste and sewage sludge co-digestion facilities in Tai Po Sewage Treatment Works
To provides reception and co-digestion facilities at the Tai Po Sewage Treatment Works for the co-digestion of sewage sludge from Sewage Treatment Works in New Territories East and pre-treated food waste of up to 500 wet tonnes per day
The project provides opportunity to co-locate the food waste and sewage sludge co-digestion facilities in Tai Po STW, to achieve the principle of “Single Site, Multiple Use”. The proposed co-digestion facilities would increase biogas yieldand enhance energy recovery whilst promoting renewable energy development. Recycling of food waste would also save valuable landfill space and decrease the generation of landfill gas, contributing to the sustainability and circularity in waste management as well as the carbon neutrality target of Hong Kong
