Project Scope
Construction of a water tunnel of about 2.8 km in length and 3 m in diameter, from Kowloon Byewash Reservoir to Lower Shing Mun Reservoir and the associated intake and outfall structures at both ends of the tunnel
Major Improvements and Benefits
The IRTS serves dual purposes of improving flood protection level in West Kowloon areas and achieving water conservation by transferring collected surface runoff from the Kowloon group of reservoirs to the Lower Shing Mun Reservoir. It will also strengthen our resilience in flood mitigation for combating climate change.
